Section Four: Extending the Natural Selection Model to Anomalous Phenomena

There are two materials included in this final section of the natural selection unit. This portion of the unit is often the most rewarding, as students have the opportunity to apply their understanding of the natural selection model to case studies that involve adaptations that may not seem advantageous at first look. There are two case studies included in this section that allow students to explore and explain instances of mimicry and warning coloration and sexual selection. Students will work in groups for several days on each case and then spend time in class presenting their ideas to their peers.
