Course Material 1A: Helper-Builder — Practicing Cooperation & Communication
In this introductory task, students practice working together as a group. Their goal is to build a structure involving a textbook, Styrofoam cup, and a pencil. The rules for performing this task create a unique challenge for students: the "builders" are wearing blindfolds and the "helpers," who are the only students who have seen the desired structure, cannot speak or handle the building materials. Consequently, the builders and helpers need to invent new and creative ways to communicate in order to accomplish their goal.
