Building the EMS Model
In the second section of our course, students participate in iterative model building as they encounter patterns in various celestial phenomena and attempt to provide a causal explanation for them. Each of the six materials within Building the EMS Model focuses on a different phenomenon (day & night, Moon phases, eclipses, etc.). Thus, students progressively add to their EMS model as they employ it to account for more and more complex phenomena.
- 2A: Day/Night and Sunrise/Sunset (3 class periods)
- 2B: Moon Rise and Set (2 class periods)
- 2C: Face of the Moon (1 class period)
- 2D: Phases of the Moon (5-6 class periods)
- 2E: Eclipses (5 class periods)
- 2F: Seasons (5-6 class periods)
- 2G: EMS Exam (1 class period)
